What is Alexa?
Alexa is not only name of girl or woman. Alexa in this case is a company. Its name was chosen in homage to the Library of Alexandria. Alexa was founded in 1996 by Brewster Kahle and Bruce Gilliat. They claiming it would improve internet searching by tracking user decisions and using that data to aid future searches. As Alexa described it in the early the early days: “Alexa is a free advertising-supported Web navigation service providing useful information about the sites you are viewing and suggesting related sites.” In addition, ALEXA was originally an abbreviation for Address Lookup EXperts Authority.

Essentially, Alexa is a company that measures web traffic on almost every website on the internet through their increasingly popular toolbar plugin.

So, from those information we know that Alexa Rank is Rank of website that made by Alexa by measured web traffic through their toolbar plugin. And you should know it is important to get high rank in Alexa.

Why Alexa Rank important?
High number of Alexa rank of a website seems to be important just because, the advertising companies rely on this ranking to determine the cost for placing advertisements in the concerned websites. Especially if your blog is money maker. Many advertisers and ad networks use Alexa Rank to determine the website's value of advertising, as examples; Text Link Ads, Sponsored Reviews and ReviewMe are such advertising companies. And you should remember, higher Alexa Rank gives higher popularity and inclination towards such websites.
